Raw Sewage running along Wadi Nar

This photo shows a "river" of raw sewage that flows along Wadi Nar. It contains untreated sewage from parts of East Jerusalem, Bet Sahour, Bethlehem, Zatara, Aleibadeiya and surrounding villages (with a total population of almost 300.000).
The sewage stream extends from the foothills of Jerusalem to the Dead Sea carrying about 4.5 million cubic meters of raw sewage per year. Some of the sewage infiltrates to the groundwater aquifers. The sewage stream is used to irrigate field crops along the banks of the stream, and to water sheep and goats.
