Monitoring of Gravel Pits - MONRO

Aim of this study is to examine the feasibility of using panchromatic and multispectral satellite images for the assessment of gravel pits. The change of the extent of these pits is the main focus of this study. As a test area the district of Vöcklabruck in Upper Austria will we be examined for 1991, 1996 and 1999. Besides evaluating known extraction sites the possibility of locating new sites will be examined as well. This study will be concluded by a concept for implementing the applied methods at the Amt der oberöstereichischen Landesregierung with a special emphasis on automation.
