Provision of Satellite Image Data for Mobile Radio Network Planning

Planning mobile radio networks requires information on land use that can be derived from satellite imagery. For the network planning department of Connect Austria, a mobile telephone provider, satellite images covering the entire area of Austria are selected, purchased and pre-processed. The data sets are acquired by the US American satellite Landsat 7, that scans the earth’s surface in six multispectral channels with a resolution of 30m, and one panchromatic channel with a resolution of 15m. The image scenes are being geocoded with respect to topography in order to derive a geometrical homogeneous data base. Deliverables are 13 Landsat 7 image scenes on CD-ROM, geocoded to the Austrian Gauß-Krüger projection system.
